Iquitos to Leticia/Tabatinga cruise

4 day / 3 night - Depart Iquitos Sunday 12:00 Noon

Day 01-Sunday : Transfer* from the airport/hotel to dock. Board the M/V Rio Amazonas. While sailing down the Amazon River , you will be able to appreciate the varied and beautiful landscapes along the river. Afternoon stop at Yanamono to visit a sugar cane rum still, then a short walk at Chamaleon Island to observe water Lilies.

Day 02-Monday : Early wake up call for morning bird watching at the Ampiyacu River . Visit the Bora and Huitoto villages. Later, stop at the town of Pevas , oldest Peruvian town on the Amazon. In the afternoon, a jungle hike through the dense rain forest at the Shishita River with opportunities to view wildlife.

Day 03-Tuesday : Morning jungle walk and visit to Paranaquiro village followed by a piranha fishing expedition on a small black water lake. In the afternoon a brief visit to the village of Caballococha . After sunset, cross the lake to look for the Amazon caiman in the reedy shallows and listen to the sounds of the rain forest.

Day 04-Wednesday : Early morning arrival in Santa Rosa Island , Peru , opposite to Leticia/Tabatinga cities. Transfer* to a hotel or airport in Leticia or Tabatinga

IQT-31 M/V RIO AMAZONAS

Leticia/Tabatinga to Iquitos cruise

4 day / 3 night - Depart LET/TBT Wednesday 1:00 pm

Day 01-Wednesday : Late morning transfer* from hotel or airport in Leticia or Tabatinga to Santa Rosa Island . Board the M/V Rio Amazonas. If time permitting there will be a late afternoon, or early evening shore excursion.

Day 02-Thursday : A morning jungle hike at Chimbote area to observe a wide variety of flora and fauna. Early afternoon, visit to the river village of San Pablo . Night exploration by launch up the Peruate River to listen to the sounds of the jungle and spot Amazon caiman.

Day 03-Friday : Morning visit to a Yagua village for trading your manufactured goods for native handicrafts. Late afternoon, shore excursion at the Apayacu River to observe this beautiful black water river and its lakes.

Day 04-Saturday : Early morning arrival in Iquitos in time for transfer to the airport for connecting flights to Lima or to a hotel in Iquitos .

IQT-32 M/V RIO AMAZONAS

7 day / 6 night

Depart Iquitos Sunday 12:00 Noon

Arrive Iquitos Saturday 07:00am

Combines the down river and up river cruises for a closer and more leisurely look at life on the Amazon. Wednesday morning, while the ship will remain in Santa Rosa Island , Peru , you will be transferred across the Amazon River to the twin cities of Leticia , Colombia and Tabatinga , Brazil . Plenty of time to shop and walk along both cities on your own pace. You might want to visit the local zoo and museum (NOT included in our cruise rate). Noon return across the river and board the M/V Rio Amazonas for the up river sailing.

Note that different shore excursions are made on the down and up river segments. The Amazon area has so many things to offer to our clients who are willing to taste a little bit of this fantastic paradise full of flora and fauna as well as its incredible people.

Las Tres Fronteras (The Three Frontiers)

The “Three Frontiers” is a fascinating corner of the Amazon River basin where Peru , Colombia and Brazil meet on this mighty river. The area is located some 2,000 miles from the mouth of the Amazon River at Belem do Para in Brazil and some 240 miles from Iquitos in Peru . All tributaries and streams of the region, such as the Yavari River , are wild and unspoiled and provide an excellent area for nature cruising and explorations.

The region is accessible only by air from Manaus ( Brazil ) and Bogota ( Colombia ) as well as by air and river from Iquitos ( Peru ).

Leticia , Colombia

Leticia , Colombia is the trading hub of the region, a Colombian frontier town with a unique, friendly atmosphere. Has many good souvenir/handicraft shops and shops selling quality emeralds at low prices, both set and unset. There is also a good zoo that is home to  a very large anaconda and large caiman. (Zoo is included in city tour.)

Tabatinga , Brazil

Brazil 's western-most point on the Amazon, offers air connections to Manaus (and on to Rio de Janeiro , Santarem and Belem Do Para in the lower Amazon.) Also, twice weekly boat service to Manaus .

Santa Rosa Island , Peru

Santa Rosa is an island located in the middle of the Amazon River, opposite Leticia and Tabatinga, is the eastern-most tip of Peru . This small town has Customs and immigrations offices for people entering and leaving Peru .

Note: The entire area is a “Free Zone” and no travel documents are required to cross from one country to another.
